On an night when its offense was struggling, Bishop Diego got defensive and wore down La Reina 25-17 on Saturday in a Frontier League girls basketball game.
“Our defense played well, we just could not get clicking offensively,” said Bishop coach Jeff Burich.
The teams were tied 11-11 at halftime. Bishop was able to pull away in the third quarter when Josie McCoy hit back-to-back 3-pointers.
“That gave us the separation we needed,” said Burich.
McCoy and Greer Shull each scored seven points for the Cardinals, and Madison Ballard-Rozok grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.
Bishop is tied with Santa Paula for first place at 10-1 and is 17-8 overall.
