Bishop Diego was off to the races in its CIF Division 5-AA girls basketball playoff game on Thursday night.
The Cardinals used their fast break and 21 points from Greer Shull to cruise past Vasquez 42-24.
“We were forcing them to take tough shots, rebounding and running,” said Bishop Diego coach Jeff Burich.
The Cardinals led 9-3 after the first quarter and took a commanding 20-8 advantage into halftime.
“They were very physical, more physical than what we’re used to playing agianst,” Burich said of Vasquez. “We kept attacking the basket and were able to wear them down.”
Jordyn Lilly was a force on the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds to go with her five points.
The Cardinals will take a long bus trip to Bishop Union on Saturday.
