Cate’s boys soccer team used a single goal to withstand Banning on Wednesday, moving through to the quarterfinals of the Division 6 CIF playoff.
The two-time defending CIF champion Rams got their goal off the foot of junior Tyler Douglas, who blasted a shot into the upper corner from 25 yards out. Cate took the lead in the 35th minute.
The Cate defense allowed just three shots and Keller Mochel recorded his second-straight shut out in CIF.
“Defensively we looked well organized and efficient thanks in large part to senior captain Joshua Yaro’s strong play and direction,” said Rams head coach Peter Mack.
Cate’s quarterfinal game is at home on Friday against No. 5 seed Ontario Christian. Cate is No. 4.
