Justin Brosnan scored two goals and Luis Ortiz had a goal and an assist to spark Bishop Diego’s boys soccer team to its first CIF playoff victory since 2007.
The Cardinals blanked visiting Oakwood 3-0 in a Division 7 playoff opener on Friday.
Bishop did all its scoring in the first half. Brosnan scored the first two goals. His second came on a header of a cross from Ortiz.
Ortiz tallied the third goal.
Aidan Williams played a solid game on defense and John Salda notched the shutout.
The Cardinals play fourth-seeded Lennox Academy in the second round at a site to be determined by coin-flip.
