San Marcos got its game back.
The Royals shared the basketball and played their up-tempo style to beat El Dorado 49-42 in a second-round game of the CIF Division 3-AA playoffs Friday night in Orange County.
The win sets up a quarterfinal matchup at third-seeded Corona del Mar on Tuesday,
The Royals had a solid shooting night, making 6-10 from 3-point range.
Kevin Hempy led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Bryce Ridenour added 10 points, Ian Douglas sdored nine points and Jake Wheelock and Uriel Hurtado contributed seven points apiece.
Defense, however, proved to be the difference in this game. The Royals held El Dorado to just five points in the third quarter, enabling them to build a nine-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
“Our defense was really solid today,” San Marcos coach Dave Odell said “We turned them over several times. Bryce Ridenour led us with seven steals. We also held their leading scorer to just two points.”
