Nathan Dutcher scored 28 points, and Providence Hall broke open a close game with a big third quarter and routed Bethel Baptist, 60-33, in the second round of the CIF Division 6 boys basketball playoffs Friday night at Carpinteria High.
The Lions held a 24-18 lead halftime and then outscored Bethel Baptist 20-8 in the third quarter. Dutcher had a six-point play in the quarter. He was fouled while making a 3-pointer, made the free throw and then hit two more free throws after the Bethel Baptist coach was called for a technical foul.
Providence Hall coach Landon Boucher said the Lions did a good job shutting down Bethel’s leading scorer.
Matt Eaton added 16 points for the Lions, who play Lake Arrowhead Christian or Joshua Springs in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
