Dos Pueblos got the win it needed to have a shot at a Channel League title on Thursday as the Chargers edged Ventura 41-36 on Tuesday.
Zach Shugart recorded 17 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks to help improve the Chargers to 7-4 in league play, one game behind the 8-3 Santa Barbara Dons. The two crosstown rivals play on Thursday in both teams’ regular season finale.
The Chargers won another low scoring game as they improve to 10-1 when holding opponents to 45 points or less. Dos Pueblos led 16-12 at halftime.
Devon Ray and CJ Zajic drew praise from head coach Joe Zamora for their defensive presence.
Steve Ledesma led Ventura with 15 points.
It was Ventura’s last game of the season. The Cougars are 3-9 in league play and 8-18 overall.
