Drake Gilliland pitched a complete game and sparked a six-run third inning with a sacrifice bunt, leading the Dos Pueblos baseball team to a 9-3 win at Westlake in the Easton Tournament.
Gilliland, a senior right-hander, allowed eight hits as the Chargers improved to 2-1.
“He pitched an outstanding game,” DP coach Nick Katzenstein said. “It was a great game all the way around. His composure on the mound was excellent.”
Gilliland pitched out of jam in the third inning, getting the final two outs on a pop-up and a strike out.
James Savage had a big day for the Chargers, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Anthony Spiritosanto, Dylan Rohde and Ben York also went 2-for-3. Spiritosanto, who was battling the flu, tripled, drove in a run and played a solid defensive game, said Katzenstein.
The Chargers are back in action Saturday at Newbury Park.
