It was only the second game of the season but it was a special one for the Dos Pueblos baseball team on Tuesday.
The Chargers routed Palmdale 17-3 in a five-inning, mercy-rule game of the Easton Tournament for their first win of the season and the first win for new coach Nick Katzenstein.
“For me, it was a good thing to get my first win at home, on Coach (Scott) O’Leary Field,” Katzenstein said. “I played for Coach O’Leary and being a former player, this is a special moment for me.”
The Chargers (1-1) got big days at the plate from several players. Gabe Speier homered, went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs; Dylan Rohde also went 3-for-4 and had three RBIs. Luke Coffey drove in four runs with a homer and a double and Brian Cho went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
On the mound, junior left-hander Josh Tedeschi pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs and four hits.
“Josh pitched a great game on the mound,” said Katzenstein. “We’ve got two good lefties on the mound for us.”
The Chargers are back in action on Thursday.
