Lance Kronberg, who played on CIF and State Championship teams at Santa Barbara High and Santa Barbara City College, respectively, has been named head coach of the SBCC men?s tennis team.
The Santa Barbara native previously coached the tennis team in 2001-02. He led the Vaqueros to a WSC title with a 10-2 record in 2001 and was named Coach of the Year. As a player, Kronberg helped SBCC capture the 1989 State Championship.
He earned his Bachelor?s degree from UC Santa Cruz and was a two-time All-American tennis player. He?s been on the staff of the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club for 15 years, serving as head professional from 1997-2002 and 2006 to the present.
Kronberg was also the head coach of the Bishop Diego High boys tennis team in 1994. In 2011, he became a NASM Certified Personal Trainer.
?He understands the importance of academic success as an inextricable part of the student-athlete experience,? said Vaquero athletic director Ryan Byrne.
SBCC opens the 2013 campaign on Feb. 9 at College of the Desert.
It has been previously announced that the SBCC men’s tennis program will be suspended following the 2013 season.
