With leading scorer Preston Branson struggling, Cooper Damron stepped up and had one of the biggest games of his Westmont basketball career.
Damron made 10 of 13 shots, scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the sixth-ranked Warriors to an 87-77 GSAC win over defending national champion Concordia on Tuesday night at Murchison Gym.
Branson was having a tough night, making just 2 of 13 shots. But the Warriors showed their balance with Damron scoring inside and Jordan Sachs penetrating the defense and getting to the free-throw line. Sachs made 15 of 17 free throws and scored 22 points.
Mantas Drungys added 12 points for teh Warriors, who improved to 19-3 and 7-0 in the GSAC.
Dakota Downs scored 24 points and Tim Harris had 14 for Concordia (13-8, 2-5).
