Cate’s girls soccer team held firm and kept a potent Thacher scoreless in the first half of their Condor League match on Saturday.
But the Toads broke through in the second half after a long punt and defeated the Rams 1-0.
“We packed our defense with our speediest players and sought to contain their attack and find an opportunity or two in the game to pick up a goal,” Cate coach Lisa Holmes said. “For most of the afternoon, our game plan worked well.”
Holmes praised defenders Ellen Lempres, Fernanda Pett, Mekena Fetzer and McKenna Madden, and goalkeeper Eliza Giles, who made several big saves to keep the game a scoreless tie into half-time.
