Jasmine Paz scored in the first half and crossed a ball that deflected off a defender for a second goal to lead Cate’s girls soccer team to a 2-0 win over Laguna Blanca on Saturday.
The Rams, fielding only 13 players, came up big on defense to thwart the Owls.
“Ellen Lempres and Fernanda Pett were able to shut down most of what was sent up the middle,” Cate coach Lisa Holmes said. “Eliza Giles stopped anything that managed to get past the defense and was not afraid to come off her line for the ball.”
Paz’s first goal came off a corner kick from Lempres.
On the second goal, Paz crossed a ball in front of the net for Caitlin Cain but it was deflected by a defender into the goal.
“The second goal gave us some more breathing room, though Laguna continued to press until the final whistle,” said Holmes
