Monica Garcia lifted Carpinteria’s girls soccer team to its first Tri-Valley League win on Monday, scoring the game’s only goal in the second overtime in a clash with Grace Brethren.
The two schools battled to a scoreless draw in regulation. Garcia broke the stalemate in the second overtime period by finding the back of the net from an impossible angle. Garcia scored from the side of the 18, slipping the shot just inside the near post.
“Too many bad first touches led to too many bad passes and thus too many turnovers,” reported Warriors head coach Charles Bryant. “But, I was very happy with how our girls kept on the offensive and kept looking to win versus not taking enough chances.”
Bryant singled out Cristina Valdez for strong defensive play.
The Warriors improved to 3-7-1 on the season.
