Dan Fisher, a former Dos Pueblos High volleyball standout, has been hired as the new women’s volleyball coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
Fisher was named to the job on Tuesday. He leaves Concordia University in Irvine after leading the program to the its first NAIA National Championship. He coached two years at Concordia and was massively successful, posting an overall record of 75-2 with back-to-back trips to the NAIA Finals.
This past season, Concordia finished with a perfect 38-0 record and Fisher was named coach of the year.
“We are very excited to welcome Dan Fisher to Pitt to lead our volleyball program,” Athletic Director Steve Pederson said in a statement. “Dan has a proven track record as a winner and brings a unique set of skills and background to this position. Volleyball is important to Pitt and we were committed to finding a coach to build upon the history and traditions of this program. I am grateful to Donna Sanft (Executive Associate Athletic Director), who led the search, and excited that it concluded with such a terrific coach. We look forward to working with Coach Fisher to help him achieve great things at Pitt.”
Fisher has also experienced success coaching on the professional level. In July of 2012, he was an assistant coach for the women’s gold medal-winning USA National Pan Am Cup Team.
After graduating from Dos Pueblos in 1995, Fisher played at Hawaii before transferring and finishing his collegiate career at Pacific.
His coaching experience includes three years as the men’s coach at Pacific, associate head coach with the University of San Francisco women’s team and associate head coach with the Hawaii men’s team.
