Cate?s Joshua Yaro, one of the top-rated high school soccer players in the country, has made a verbal commitment to Georgetown University.
?Looking at all the schools and all the options I had, Georgetown was the best place for me,? said Yaro, who arrived at Cate four years ago from the Right To Dream Academy in Ghana.
Yaro has helped Cate win back-to-back CIF Divison 7 championships and he?s earned All-CIF honors both years as a centerback. This season he?s playing in the midfield.
He said his interest in political science played a big factor in his decision to chose Georgetown, which is located in Washington D.C.
What also helped him pick the Big East school was the Hoyas advancing to the College Cup final. They lost to Indiana 1-0.
?I really liked the place, the players and the coach. I couldn?t see myself at any other place,? said Yaro.
When he first arrived at Cate from Ghana, Yaro admitted he had no interest of going to college on the East Coast.
?I didn?t want to go back east because it?s really cold,? he said.
His attitude changed during his junior year as he started to receive several college offers.
?Last year, I forgot all about it,? he said. ?If a school comes and it?s a place I like and it?s a place that can give me what I want, I?m going to for it.?
