Goalkeeper Lalo Garcia played a solid game, and Carpinteria got goals from Genaro Hurtado and Lalo Mejia in a 2-0 win at Fillmore in the Tri-Valley League boys soccer opener.
Hurtado headed in a corner kick from Angel Varela to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute.
Carpinteria, the two-time defending league champion, held the one-goal lead until Mejia converted on a beautifully executed give-and-go with Ricky Arroyo in the 65th minute.
Garcia kept the Flashes off the scoreboard and recorded his first shutout.
“In my opinion, he was the the player of the game,” said Carpinteria coach Leo Quintero.
