A late goal by Ventura was the difference in Thursday’s Channel League boys soccer game at Dos Pueblos as the Chargers fell to the Cougars 1-0.
The Chargers were playing without top offensive threat Omar Montalvo and their defense picked up the slack by keeping Ventura off the scoreboard for a majority of the game.
“For what Ventura brings, I thought our defense was really up to the challenge,” said Dos Pueblos head coach Matt York.
Dos Pueblos’ defensive back line features Christian Uribe, Tucker Snider, Tim Heiduk and John Sigurdson.
Ventura is the No. 7 team in Division 1.
“No single team really dominated. There was a lot of up and down with some breakaway attempts,” York said. “It was real exciting for the fans.”
The Chargers face Santa Barbara in their next match on Tuesday.
