Cate played one its most complete soccer matches of the season and blanked Condor League rival Thacher 3-0 on Saturday.
Georgetown commit Joshua Yaro, Leighton Brillo-Sonnino and Abraham Tall scored for the Rams, who were coming off a loss against Santa Ynez.
“It was our most complete game of the year from back to front,” Cate coach Peter Mack said. “We were consistently vocal and aggressive on defense, and smart and patient on offense. We had a number of guys suffering from the flu but you wouldn’t have known it from the way we played.”
The Rams controlled the run of play from the start and created several quality scoring chances. On one, a Thacher defender stopped a sure goal with his hand, leading to Yaro’s penalty kick, which he buried in the back left corner with about 10 minutes to play in the first half.
Minutes later, junior Iman Fardghasemmi beat a Thacher defender and lined a low cross from the right corner that Brillo-Sonnino hammered into the Toads’ net for a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The third goal was set up by Yaro. He beat his defender on the left side and crossed the ball to Tall, who was charging into the box. He neatly finished the play for the final score.
