San Marcos’ boys basketball team spread the ball around in Tuesday’s 59-40 Channel League win at Ventura.
Five Royals scored at least 10 points, with Kevin Hempy, Bryce Ridenour, Elijah Johnson, Christian Widmer and Jake Wheelock combining to score 52 of the Royals 59.
For Johnson, it was his first game back from injury.
“It was a great first game back for E.J.,” Royals head coach Dave Odell said. “He gave us a spark on both ends of the floor.”
Widmer added five rebounds and four assists to his 10 points, while Wheelock collected a team-high six rebounds.
Odell said Hempy and Ridenour helped power a third quarter that saw a slim 2-point advantage balloon to a 13-point lead entering the final period.
Dustin Houck led Ventura with 14 points.
The result makes San Marcos, which hadn’t played since December 21st, 1-1 in league play. Ventura falls to 1-2.
