San Marcos’ boys basketball team topped Buena on Wednesday night 63-53 for a Channel League victory.
The Royals are 3-1 in league play after the first of three rounds.
The Bulldogs took a seven-point lead in the third quarter thanks to an 11-0 run to start the second half.
San Marcos regrouped on its homecourt and led for good going into the final period.
Bryce Ridenour and Ian Douglas led the Royals with 13 points each. It was a season-high for Douglas, who has been working his way back from injury.
“I thought Ian played a fantastic game for us,” said Royals head coach Dave Odell. “He made 5-of-6 from the floor including two big 3-pointers. He also had to guard their leading scorer. Really pleased to see Ian enjoy a nice game like this as he’s worked hard to get himself back in shape after being injured much of the season.”
Buena’s Danny Tatnall led all scorers with 19.
