Bishop Diego overcame Mission Prep’s pressure defense and pulled out a 49-46 non-league boys basketball victory on Saturday at home.
“They really played excellent defense against us. It was tough to get into a rhythm offensively,” Bishop coach Dean Prophet said of Mission Prep.
Ironically, it was the Cardinals’ defense that turned the game around. Trailing by four points going into the fourth quarter, they made a couple of steals and scored on fast breaks.
Freshman AV Bennett had a couple of layups and Grant Sexton and Christian Pearson hit clutch 3-pointers in Bishop’s fourth-quarter surge. It outscored Mission Prep 18-11 in the quarter.
Caleb Richey scored 14 points and Thomas Lash added 12 for the Cardinals, who improve to 10-5 on the season.
