A poor first quarter doomed Cate’s boys basketball team on Wednesday as the Rams took a 60-44 Condor League loss to Besant Hill.
The Rams were outscored 13-4 in the opening eight minutes and failed to put together a legitimate rally.
Three Cate players filled out their stat lines. Max Wankner totaled 16 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. Spencer Whiteman added 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Spencer Shapiro collected eight points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
It was the first Condor League loss of the season for Cate.
“While the Rams’ scoring challenges continued into the third quarter, the Rams’ energy and play significantly rebounded,” reported Cate head coach Bryan Rodriguez. “The Rams refused to give up and fought hard to try and overcome the poor performance of the first half.”
Cate plays at Laguna Blanca on Friday and vs. Providence Hall on Saturday.
