Cate School came away with a 40-37 boys basketball victory over Carpinteria on Tuesday as the Rams benefited from a Max Wankner double-double.
Wankner totaled 12 points and 12 rebounds, both team highs. Austin Gallegos tallied 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
Duncan Gordon led the Warriors with 10 points and seven rebounds.
A sluggish first quarter for both teams saw a combined six points scored. The shots started falling more in the second quarter and Cate led 16-12 at the break.
Carpinteria won the third quarter to take a one-point lead into the final frame but Cate stayed close and retook the lead with two minutes in the game.
The Rams held on for the win even though they made just 5-of-14 free-throw attempts.
