Senior Sweets Underwood’s double-double performance helped UCSB to a 79-69 victory at Loyola Marymount last Wednesday and has earned her Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors it was announced by the conference today.
Underwood notched a career-high 22 points in the win over the Lions, helping the Gauchos snap a three-game skid while they also handed LMU its first home loss of the season.
She made 8-of-12 shots from the field and went 6-for-7 at the free throw line. The 6-0 forward added a team-leading 11 rebounds to secure her third double double of the season and the 11th of her career. The 22 points eclipsed her previous career-best by four. She also tallied two steals, a block and an assist.
This is the first Big West Player of the Week honor earned by a Gaucho this season.
UCSB will continue its road swing later this week when it travels to Washington on Saturday, Dec. 15 for a 1 p.m. pairing before traveling to BYU to face the Cougars at 1 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Both games will be broadcast online at UCSBgauchos.com.
