Zach Shugart scored 25 points, including two free throws in the final seconds, helping Dos Pueblos to a 56-54 win over Oxnard in the first game of the Ventura boys basketball tournament on Wednesday.
Cruz Mertens added 10 points for the Chargers (6-3), who managed to hold off the Yellow Jackets down the stretch.
Shugart also had seven blocks and three steals.
Coach Joe Zamora also praised the play of Mertens, Chris Williams and Devon Ray.
Dos Pueblos plays Santa Clara on Thursday.
