Kaitlyn Saperstein’s second-half hat-trick sent San Marcos’ girls soccer team to an easy 5-0 victory over Santa Clara on Monday.
Saperstein took advantage of a well-placed pass from Krysia Chalk to score her first. The second came on a penalty kick that Saperstein created by getting tackled by the keeper in a 1-on-1 situation. Saperstein added a third in a free kick three minutes later.
Olivia Jones opened up the scoring in the first half. Jones then assisted on a goal from Emily Allen that made the score 2-0.
“We really didn’t come out spectacular. It was a little bit of a sloppy first half,” said Royals head coach Macie Berlin. “And then we came out fast and furious in the second half and put it away.”
The Royals (2-1-1) play again on Tuesday at San Luis Obispo.
