Dos Pueblos’ boys soccer team lost out to Newbury Park on Monday in a 3-2 match played on the synthetic turf at Girsh Park.
The game’s location was switched barely a half hour before game time due to a soggy field at Dos Pueblos.
A scoreless first half gave way to a frenetic first 15 minutes of the second half. Four goals were scored – three on penalty kicks – between the 43rd and 53rd minutes.
Newbury Park took a 3-1 lead before Noah Zimmerman scored for DP in the 73 minute. Omar Montalvo scored the Chargers’ first goal – his fifth of the season – on a penalty kick that he created.
Dos Pueblos kept the pressure on following Zimmerman’s score until the final whistle.
“It was one of those games where they were holding on for dear life,” said Chargers head coach Matt York.
Central defender Tucker Snider also drew praise from his coach.
“He brings a real attitude and presence to our defense that we’ve been missing,” York said.
Dos Pueblos plays again on Wednesday against Pacifica.
