Gsoc: Oxnard has too much speed for Carpinteria

Carpinteria fell to a speedy Oxnard team 4-0 in a pool-play match at the Buena girls soccer tournament on Wednesday.

“They were definitely the best team we faced, but we held our own for the majority of the first half,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said.

The Yellowjackets broke a scoreless draw in the 35th minute and added a second goal with one minute to play in the first half.

“We fought to start the second half and it looked like we might be able to get back into it but Oxnard scored on a quick counterattack,” Bryant said.

Despite giving up four goals, Bryant said his goalkeeper Alyssa Freeman played well. He also cited the play of midfielder Kelsie Bryant.

The Warriors (1-2-1) were missing a few starters on Wednesday and they will miss a few more on Thursday, Bryant said. They play Dos Pueblos in the morning and No. 1-ranked Oaks Christian in the afternoon.
