Bishop Diego’s girls soccer team featured four different goal scorers in Monday’s 4-0 victory over Laguna Blanca.
Lauren Underwood, Gabby Koepenick, Annelise Morando and Emily Velez all found the back of the net for the Cardinals.
Head coach Tessa Binkley like what she saw as her team improved to 4-3-1 on the season.
“Our passing game really came together. Switching the ball and dropping the ball back out of pressure. Things we have lacked in our previous games,” Binkley reported.
For the Owls, the score might have been more if not for the strong play from goalie Mitsi Gamble. The Cardinals scored just once in the first half and didn’t score their second until half the second half was through.
After Laguna Blanca’s sweeper Nadia Belton was forced from the game with an injury, the Cardinals added two more.
“Although the scoreline wouldn’t indicate it, we put in a good performance,” said Owls head coach Kevin Shertzer. “I was very happy with the spirit we showed and that we never gave up, despite the score. We made the most of our opportunities going forward and I have to give full credit to a strong Bishop team.”
The Cardinals play again on Friday versus Grace Brethren.
