Emilio Gonzalez is starting to get his basketball legs for Santa Barbara High.
The Dons’ lone returning starter scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 58-44 non-league win over visiting Santa Paula on Saturday night.
Gonzalez, who played for the 8-3 Santa Barbara football team, was the only Dons player to score in double figures.
“It was a sloppy, ragged game,” said assistant coach Andy Gil. “We were a little tired (from Friday’s night’s Oxnard game) and Santa Paula definitely came to play.”
Santa Barbara (3-0) is back on the home court Tuesday against Pacifica of Oxnard.
