Brittany Newsome had 10 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots for Cate in a 48-32 loss to Cabrillo in the Bird Cage Classic girls basketball tournament.
The Rams trailed by only four points at halftime, but they couldn’t put together a run in the second to overtake the Conquistadores.
“We just couldn’t put a sustained streak of good shooting and stingy defense together,” said coach Jay Dorion. “We will get back to work on Monday, and we will work toward playing the game — all the time— with the speed, tenacity, and fire that we showed against Carp on Thursday night.”
Dorion cited the play of Lanea Pearson and Grace Dickman. Dickman had nine points, six rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot. Pearson added five points.
