Erin Saito and Elena Schneider each scored 13 points, and Carpinteria made its free throws down the stretch to hold off San Marcos. 38-35, to take third place at the Fillmore Girls Basketball Tournament on Saturday.
“It was a good team win,” Carpinteria coach Dan Mercer said. “We always like to win the last game of a tournament. It felt good leaving the gym, winning as a group. Everything was positive.”
Schneider was named to the all-tournament team.
Carpinteria improves to 3-2 on the young season.
Hope Morrison led San Marcos (2-2) with 17 points, while Lexi Zamora added 13 points.
Carpinteria returns to action Tuesday, hosting L.A. Grant in an opening game of the Carpinteria-Bishop Diego girls tournament.
