After Santa Ynez scored first, Cate School’s boys soccer team came from behind to post a 2-1 non-league win over the Pirates on Wednesday.
The Pirates took the initial lead half-way through the opening half.
In the 38th minute, Cate’s Erik Lowe evened the score by finishing a play started by Geoffrey Acheampong and continued by sophomore Iman Fardghassemi. The assist went to Fardghassemi.
In the 66th minute Cate found the game-winner. Fardghassemi produced his second assist of the game, setting up a goal by Acheampong.
Keller Mochel was key in Cate maintaining its advantage, making nine saves including several of the highlight variety.
“With junior Leighton Brillo-Sonnino and senior captain Joshua Yaro sidelined for the game, we had to make some last-minute adjustments to our line-up. Our midfield and forward rotations were a little experimental, but the guys responded better than we could have expected,” reported Cate head coach Peter Mack.
Cate (2-1) faces Channel Islands in its next contest on Friday.
