After handing Rio Mesa its first loss of the season on Thursday, Santa Barbara High’s boys soccer team tied Westlake 0-0 and advanced to Friday’s semifinals of the Buena Tournament.
The Dons defeated Rio Mesa, the No. 4 team in Division 3, 1-0 in their first match of the tournament. Jonathan Mora scored his second goal of the season in the 8th minute, finishing off a feed from Alec Larson.
Rio Mesa is now 9-1 on the season.
Following a short hour-long break between games, Santa Barbara battled Westlake to a scoreless draw despite holding a 16-3 advantage in shots taken.
It was the 10th and 11th shutouts of the season for Santa Barbara in 15 games. Elvis Mancilla recorded one save in each match.
“That’s definitely something to be quite pleased about,” said Dons head coach Todd Heil.
Santa Barbara (12-2-1) will meet Pacifica in Friday’s semifinal.
