Santa Barbara High’s defense recorded its seventh shutout in 10 games this season by blanking Culver City 4-0 on Thursday in the opening match of the South Torrance Tournament.
Dons head coach credited Peter Gamboa and Jelan Hutton with their consistent play on the back line.
Jose Barron scored twice for Santa Barbara, while Alec Larson tallied a goal and an assist in the first half.
Up 3-0 at halftime, Leo Adame added to the Dons lead by one-timing a crossing pass from Carlos Hernandez.
Santa Barbara (9-1) faces Mira Costa in Friday’s Round of 16. The 32-team South Torrance Tournament has six of the top 10 teams in CIF’s Southern Section Division 1, including the 8th-ranked Dons.
