Santa Barbara High pulled down 50 rebounds in Saturday’s 48-40 victory over Cabrillo in the second round of the Jim Bashore Tournament.
Three Dons – Emilio Gonzalez, Jeff Paschke and Jack Baker – hauled in 10 or more. Gonzalez totaled 8 points and 13 rebounds while Paschke, with 20 points and 15 rebounds, recorded a strong double-double.
The rebounding effort helped Santa Barbara overcome a slew of turnovers forced by Cabrillo’s full-court defensive pressure.
Santa Barbara led throughout much of the game but Cabrillo cut the lead to 41-38 in the fourth quarter. Noah Burke and Matt Wagonhurst made two free throws each in the final minutes to stave off the comeback attempt.
Paschke scored nine of Santa Barbara’s 14 points in the final quarter.
Chad Broadhead led the Conquistadores with 21 points. Only four players from Cabrillo scored in the game. Michael Woodard added 10 points.
The result places Santa Barbara in Monday’s semifinals, where they will meet Arroyo Grande at 4 p.m.
Cabrillo will face Orcutt Academy on Monday at 11:30 a.m.
