San Marcos’ boys basketball team has reached the semifinals of Carpinteria High’s Jim Bashore Tournament by defeating Channel Islands on Saturday 63-54.
The Royals made 6-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter, including 5-of-6 by Paxton Ridgway, to hold off a Channel Islands team that outscored the Royals by six in the second half.
Kevin Hempy’s 19 points were a team-high for San Marcos. Uriel Hurtado added 17.
Jaymart Sabater led Channel Islands with 11 points.
The Royals are matched up against Arroyo Grande in their semifinal. Santa Barbara and Rio Mesa play in the other. Both games are on Monday at Carpinteria High.
