Four Bishop Diego starters scored in double figures during Monday’s 75-64 non-league win over Kilpatrick in the Cardinals’ home opener.
Caleb Richey led the way with 28 points. Thomas Lash posted 13, Will Busch 12 and Peter Kwock 10.
Bishop Diego head coach Dean Prophet also credited his bench for key contributions on the second half. Mario Martinez and Joe Salcedo played solid defense and Steve Kohler knocked down some big shots.
“I was pleased with the way the boys hung in there and kept their poise,” Prophet said.
The Cardinals led for the entire second half but Kilpatrick cut the lead to three at one point in the third quarter.
Bishop Diego plays next on Friday against Nordhoff in the opener of Carpinteria’s Jim Bashore Holiday Classic.
