Bishop Diego’s boys basketball team won its Jim Bashore Tournament opener on Friday in a 59-54 decision over Nordhoff.
Caleb Richey poured in 25 points, Alan Lash posted 15, and Peter Kwock added 10.
The Cardinals were down by a point after one quarter but gradually gained the upperhand, finally finishing off the Rangers by outscoring them 17-12 in the fourth period.
Bishop faces Rio Mesa in the second round on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Bashore Tournament is hosted at Carpinteria High School.
