Quarterback Dallas Lopez passed for 284 yards and five touchdowns on Friday night as West L.A. downed SBCC 52-6 in an APC football finale at La Playa Stadium.
Lopez completed 32-of-45 passes and tossed three first-half TDs as the Wildcats (5-5, 4-3) built a 26-0 halftime lead. Steven Cross ran 18 times for 124 yards and two TDs and Lopez nearly had 100 yards on the ground, finishing with 92 on seven attempts.
West L.A. finished with 31 first downs and 555 yards of offense compared to 16 first downs and 223 yards for the Vaqueros (4-6, 3-4). The Wildcats averaged 53.7 points while winning their last three games.
SBCC’s defense entered the game as the top-ranked unit in the American Pacific Conference, allowing just 23.3 points.
Vaquero quarterback Jarred Evans completed 4-of-14 passes for 37 yards with one interception. Jake Umphreyville was 6-12 with an interception for 62 yards and threw a 2-yard TD to Jacob Arnell with 10:24 to play.
Steven Jerome caught four passes for 73 yards for the Vaqueros. Leron Barnes had eight catches for 74 yards and two TDs for the Wildcats.
SBCC freshman linebacker Morgan Nevin had 13 tackles, boosting his season total to 118 and probably finished as the No. 1 tackler in California.
Santa Barbara was penalized 15 times for 140 yards and received four penalties after Barnes caught a 37-yard TD from Lopez to make the score 46-0 with 3:14 to go in the third quarter.
West L.A. got 55 yards in penalties, moving the kickoff to the SBCC 10. The Vaqueros took over on their own 1 and produced their longest drive of the season — a 99-yard march in 16 plays that led to their only TD.
