Carpinteria’s boys basketball team fought off a second-half rally to secure a 49-42 non-league win on Tuesday at Hueneme.
The Warriors led by as many as 10 points in the third quarter but Hueneme came back to tie early in the fourth quarter. Head coach Johnny Ward called a time out to break the momentum and the Warriors responded with a strong finish down the stretch.
“I’m crediting that on the experience I had on the floor from last year,” Ward said.
Carpinteria featured three different scorers in double digits, led by Ian Craddock’s 14 points. Xavier de Alba and Marcus Hutchinson added 10 each.
Kevyn Crocker and Jesus Zapata delivered strong contributions with their rebounding and defensive presence.
Carpinteria (1-0) doesn’t play again until next week when its faces Cate School on Tuesday at 5:30.
