The UCSB men’s tennis program has announced the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent this week.
The Gauchos have signed Tobias Galskov, Teague Hamilton, and Luke Steeb to join the team next fall for the start of the 2013 season.
The 2012-2013 Gauchos have finished up their fall schedule and will open up the dual match season on January 16 at home against Westmont.
TOBIAS GALSKOV
Galskov is a Denmark native and transfer from Foothill College, and was ranked No. 1 during his junior years in Denmark and No. 1 in Community College rankings. As a member of the Foothill College tennis team he won the 2012 California State Singles Championship, earning a No.1 ranking in California in singles and No. 4 in doubles. He also won the ITA Rookie of the Year Award in California Community College Tennis and was named an All-American in singles and doubles.
“Galskov is a sound, solid player with a proven track record of success,” Coach Marty Davis said. “We expect him to have an immediate impact on our program.”
TEAGUE HAMILTON
Hamilton is currently a senior at Laguna Beach High School, ranked No. 126 according to tennisrecruiting.net. Hamilton was the 2012 League Champion in singles in the Orange Coast League and 2010 League Champion in doubles. In 2012, he was named Outstanding Athlete and Team Varsity MVP at his high school.
“Teague is a truly exciting California prospect who has tons of ‘upside’ and already possesses a huge serve,” Davis said. “I can’t wait to start working with him on a daily basis.”
LUKE STEEB
Steeb, a native from Germany, was ranked No. 320 in Germany in 2011. His father, Carl Uwe-Steeb, is a former ATP Tour player who reached a career-high ranking of No. 14 in the world in singles and is Germany’s current Davis Cup Captain.
“Luke’s background and raw athletic ability are reminiscent of recent UCSB graduate and former No. 1 Mathieu Forget,” Davis said. “We’re hoping Luke will develop as quickly as Mathieu did here as a Gaucho.”
