Roxy Sandoval tossed in 12 points, and San Marcos scored nine straight points in the last three minutes of the game to beat Villanova in its season opener on Wednesday night.
“We were very patient and disciplined on offense,” Royals coach Devib Uyesaka said. “Throughout the entire game we got good shots and wide-open looks. We just couldn’t hit anything.”
The Royals stayed in the game by getting stops on defense.
“All the girls came to play, brought energy, and were on mission,” Uyesaka said. “We took the punches and kept playing hard. I’m very proud of how my girls played tonight.”
Gina Ramirez added 10 points for the Royals.
