Charlotte Skjonsby turned in a 79 on Tuesday to finish eighth in the Southern Cal Regional women’s golf tournament at San Luis Rey Downs CC in Bonsall, Calif., north of San Diego. Her score was the sixth-best of the day in the 36-player field.
The freshman from SBCC shot 82-79–161 and ended up 11 shots behind the medalist, Kristin Grimes of Canyons (71-79–150), who won by two shots. Skjonsby qualified for the State Championships, set for Nov. 12-13 at Temecula Creek Inn.
SBCC freshman Jackie Ramirez shot 86 on Tuesday and her two-day total of 174 left her tied for 18th place, six spots from a qualifying berth.
“Charlotte hit the ball real clean today and both of our players had lots of focus,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “We were grinding it out. They both played intelligently and with a lot of determination.”
Irvine Valley won the team title with 624 strokes. Glendale earned the other qualifying spot by edging Palomar 671-672.
