SBCC women draw No. 3 Cerritos in SoCal opener



SBCC was seeded 14th for the Southern Cal Regional women’s soccer playoffs and will open on Saturday at No. 3 Cerritos. The time hasn’t been announced.

The Vaqueros (11-3-4) won three straight and five of their last six to finish second in the WSC North with a 7-1-2 record. Freshman Brandie Harris (14 goals, 4 assists) is the top scorer with 32 points and Sandy Grimaldo (13 goals, 5 assists) is right behind with 31.

SBCC has scored 39 goals and allowed 24. Goalie Brianna Robinson and the defense have seven shutouts.

Cerritos (16-2-2) is the fourth-highest scoring team in Southern Cal with 70 goals. They’ve only given up 17. The Falcons won their seventh straight South Coast Conference title with an 11-2-1 mark.

Lauren Nanez leads the Falcons’ offense with 44 points (15 goals, 14 assists) and Claudia Ibarra has 12 goals and 36 points.

Eighteen teams made the women’s regional and there are two play-in games on Thursday.

Santiago Canyon (19-0-1) is the top seed, followed by Canyons (17-0-4), Cerritos and San Bernardino Valley (13-2-5).
