Jenna Anderson had 11 kills and four block assists on Tuesday night but SBCC couldn’t find its offensive rhythm in a 25-20, 25-19, 25-15 loss to Pasadena in the first round of the Southern Cal Regional women’s volleyball playoffs.
The fifth-seeded Lancers improved to 20-4 and are 11-0 in Hutto-Patterson Gym this season. The No. 12 Vaqueros had their school-record 14-match win streak snapped and finish the year 16-7.
It was the first match in 11 days for the Vaqueros, who completed a perfect 10-0 WSC North season with a 3-1 win at Moorpark on Nov. 9.
The Vaqueros also had their opponent switched at the last minute. They were originally scheduled to play at Orange Coast but a seeding error caused the California Community College Athletic Association to re-seed the Regional on Monday night, sending the Vaqueros to Pasadena.
“I’m very proud of our girls and how they battled,” said coach Ed Gover. “Under the circumstances, we did what we could against a strong Pasadena squad.”
Pasadena had nine blocks and nine aces. Nora To’omalatei led the Lancers with 13 kills and six aces.
Sophomore Emily Banas had nine digs and Bianca Castro contributed five kills and a .333 hitting percentage for the Vaqueros, who were outhit .265 to .092.
