Chaffey rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit to tie SBCC in a Southern Cal Regional men’s playoff opener on Saturday afternoon, then scored a goal early in overtime to secure a 3-2 victory in Rancho Cucamonga.
Headers by Justin Saul and Kian Chachi in the 20th and 32nd minutes staked the 12th-seeded Vaqueros (10-7-4) to a 2-0 halftime advantage. The No. 5 Panthers (15-4-2) scored in the 50th minute and then tied the game in the final minute of regulation.
“It was sloppy defending on our part,” said coach John Sisterson of the game-tying goal. “They scored in the first five minutes of overtime (they play two 15-minute halves in OT). We were pounding the goal in the second OT but we couldn’t one in the net.
“George Wakefield played great defense for us. I really felt like we should have won this game. We just didn‘t capitalize on our chances.”
