SBCC was outscored 14-4 early in the second half on Saturday and Sierra went on to post a 70-64 victory in a consolation semifinal at the Fresno City men’s basketball tournament.
The Vaqueros (1-3) led 33-27 at halftime but couldn’t overcome 34 percent shooting. SBCC forced 25 turnovers but was outrebounded 45-38.
Mike Hansen topped Santa Barbara with 14 points and five rebounds. Logan Louks had 11 points and four boards, Pablo Miranda scored 10 and Robert Cid had nine points. Jalani Davis collected six points and six rebounds.
The game was tied at 35 when the Wolverines went on a 14-4 run to take a 49-39 advantage with 12 minutes left. SBCC got within four (68-64) with 1:15 to go but was forced to foul and Sierra converted its free throws.
“We got hurt in defensive transition,” said coach Morris Hodges. “They got some runouts on made baskets that led to some easy points. Even though we shot 34 percent, it was still a two-possession game with a minute to play.”
After the Thanksgiving break, SBCC returns to action at L.A. Valley on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
