San Marcos boys cross country finished off its best season in school history with a 10th place finish at the Division 3 CIF Southern Section meet at Mount SAC on Saturday.
Running on Mt. SAC’s shorter (2.96-mile) rain course, the Royals had two runners finish under 15 minutes and four more under 16 minutes, with a top 5 team spread of under one minute. Leading the way was Ryan Sorenson (14:48), followed by Eric Salas (14:59), Nick Swider (15:19) and Alex Heuchert (15:22). Walker Odell rounded out the scoring (15:42), followed by Joe Logan (15:48) and Michael Harris (17:00).
The Royals team in their first ever trip to the CIF Finals fell only 27 points shy of qualifying for the State Meet.
Palos Verdes won the team competition, while St. John Bosco’s Myles Smith took first individually with a time of 14:13. Find complete results from the Division 3 CIF Southern Section meet HERE.
In regards to article about San Marcos cross country having best season….maybe of the decade, but not in history. In 1963, Bill Schabram was undefeated in his first season of c.c. and won the CIF SS 2A title in the fastest time of all divisions and the team finished second.
In 1964, Bill won the 3A title in the fastest time of all divisions and the team finished 3rd. There was no state c.c. in those days….. Check CIF record book….
